Hailed upon its release last year as "vital and comfortable taking new chances” (Rolling Stone) and “cheery, resilient, forever looking forward” (The New Yorker), Paul McCartney’s McCartney III, which topped album charts across the world, is now literally moving into the future in the form of McCartney III Imagined. Personally curated by Paul, McCartney III Imagined features an A-List assortment of friends, fans and brand new acquaintances, each covering and/or reimagining their favorite McCartney III moments in their own signature styles. The result is a kaleidoscopic reinterpretation of an album Rolling Stone accurately tagged “an inspiration to us all”—one that serves as an extension of the instantly beloved McCartney III while standing on its own as brilliant and adventurous milestone in the McCartney discography.
'Triage' offers a rare look inside of the songwriter. This album finds Rodney Crowell introspectively looking for answers and for healing, resulting in what he has called his most personal record yet.
This new collection of songs was written during the great political, environmental and economic upheaval that has marked recent years. The noise of that chaos encouraged Crowell to look inward for solace and answers. The result is this series of songs that contend with these themes, but approaches them from a place of healing, love and solution. That they are being released while we find ourselves walking through a global pandemic, is a gift of perfect timing.
Romantic Images, Molly Burch's third album, marks a distinct evolution for Burch, both emotionally and sonically. Recorded in Denver with Tennis' Alaina Moore and Pat Riley producing, the collection celebrates the timeless delights of a well-crafted pop song, flirting with Blondie, Madonna, and even Mariah Carey as it forges a joyful soundtrack to liberation and self-discovery. Burch deliberately worked with more women collaborators than ever before on the album, and the results are transcendent, reveling in the passion and the power of the divine feminine. The collection prioritizes ecstasy and escape, and Burch's commitment to collective catharsis in her lifted, airy delivery manages to exude both thoughtful introspection and carefree abandon all at once. The shadow still lurks on the album, to be sure, but the light ultimately wins, and the result is an intoxicating collection all about coming into our truest selves. When it came to mixing and mastering the material, Burch put her faith in Gloria Kaba (Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest), Mikaelin "Blue" Bluespruce (Solange Knowles), and Heba Kadry (Bjork, Beach House) to truly understand where she was coming from with the music. Burch designed the record to mirror the emotional journey that went into creating it, sequencing the music to work it's way from jittery indecision to poised certainty over the course of ten mesmerizing tracks. Exhilarating opener "Control" takes a leap of faith as it learns to make peace with letting go, while the infectious "Heart Of Gold" grapples with wanting what you can't have. By the time the silky "New Beginning" rolls around, Burch begins settling into a newfound sureness that dominates the collection's second half, with the addictive "Emotion" (a collaboration between Burch and her Captured Tracks labelmate Wild Nothing) celebrating a spectrum of emotions as fuel for creativity."I've written quite a bit about anxiety and heartbreak in the past," Burch reflects, "but this record is more inspired by confidence and self-love. This is the most me I've ever sounded on an album."
KGLW's 18th studio album, Butterfly 3000, might be their most fearless leap into the unknown yet; 10 songs that began life as arpeggiated loops composed on modular synthesizers, before being fashioned into addictive, optimistic and seductive dream-pop. It sounds simultaneously like nothing they've done before, yet unmistakably Gizz, down to its climactic neon psych-a-tronic flourish. This is their most accessible, jubilant album to date. 4-panel Softpak CD w/ 8-pg booklet on 100% recycled stock.
The defining blues voice of his generation releases the eagerly-anticipated follow-up to his Grammy-nominated debut, 2019's Kingfish. 662 (the area code of his Clarksdale stomping grounds) is a powerful and personal album, a fiery coming-of-age record. The lyrics reflect Ingram's newfound maturity and how your roots inspire where you're heading. Musically, the record delivers a heaping helping of the deep, visceral Ingram guitar magic his fans love, fueling a combustible mix of molten blues rock, down home shuffles and soulful grooves.
"Live From The Apocalypse" is the fruit of an unprecedented time. Unlike previous live efforts the Italians, under the yoke of the pandemic, cleverly devised a way for their devoted fan base to hear and see them on stage by organizing a special livestream event performing their latest album, "Black Anima", in it's entirety, in September 2020. This very special show will now be released on vinyl and CD as well as a digital album. The physical album formats come with a bonus DVD featuring the footage of the original live stream.
Nearly five decades since his debut LP, the songs on Jackson Browne’s new album Downhill From Everywhere sustain the soulful intimacy of his first release, combined with a power and wisdom gained from a life pursuing positive change.
Swift’s album, folklore, now on Beige 2 LP coming July 23rd! "Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore," she said, letting fans know she poured all her whims, dreams, fears, musings into the 17 tracks. "I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; Aaron Dessner, Bon Iver, William Bowery & Jack Antonoff.

Sensational expands the universe of de Casier's 2019 self-released debut album Essentials. Where Essentials dealt more with the infatuation stages of love, Sensational has more of an attitude, aiming to dismantle the stereotype of single women looking for love, tackling relationship dramas and the toxicity of dating. It was a chance to rewrite scenarios in ways that empowered her, fantasizing about what could've been. Sensational was co-produced by de Casier and is a breath of fresh air to anyone with a passion for music in all its genres, as much influenced by Aaliyah and Janet Jackson as house, garage and techno. With hushed, pillow-soft vocals and production that references turn-of-the-millenium sounds, de Casier's sound surveys the past while looking to the future.
In 2020, 4AD turned 40. Never one to be on time for a party, the label is commemorating that landmark this year with the release of Bills & Aches & Blues. The compilation features 18 of its current artists covering a song of their choosing from 4AD's past: a creative experiment rooted in the spirit of collaboration and a snapshot of 4AD, 41 years after its inception.
"Coming July 23: Spiral, the long awaited return of DARKSIDE. In the summer of 2018, DARKSIDE's Dave Harrington and Nicolas Jaar rented a small house on Lenni-Lenape territory, present-day Flemington NJ, where the group spent a week, making a song a day. While it would take another year and a half to complete their second album, six songs from the band's new record Spiral were written and recorded during this initial session. ""From the beginning, DARKSIDE has been our jam band. Something we did on days off. When we reconvened, it was because we really couldn't wait to jam together again,' says Jaar. Harrington echoes this, 'It felt like it was time again,' he said. ""We do things in this band that we would never do on our own. DARKSIDE is the third being in the room that just kind of occurs when we make music together.""
Piroshka's stunning second album Love Drips And Gathers, builds on the acclaim of their 2018 album debut Brickbat, and the reputations of former members of Lush, Moose, Elastica and Modern English. Piroshka emerged in 2018, four individuals with distinct musical identities but also overlapping histories - a combination that might have unsettled, or even overwhelmed, some bands. But in their case, the bond only got stronger. After Brickbat explored social and political divisions by way of what MOJO described as "Forceful, driving garage songs and dream-pop epics", Love Drips And Gathers follows a more introspective line. Reflecting on the ties that bind us, as lovers, parents, children and friends, to a suitably subtler, more ethereal sound, whilst still revelling in energy and drama.

In addition to Sanford on trombone, the album features Jeff Bailey on bass and Phil Hey on drums.
Limited colored vinyl LP pressing. Ora the Molecule is a multinational avant-pop trio made up Norgwegian singer and band leader Nora Schjelderup, London-based drummer Sju Smatanova, and German synth player Jan Blumentrath. Together, they create an unexpected sound combining timeless nostalgia, smooth pop, and retro electronica. Ora the Molecule are united by a mutual love of dance music, all three of them DJing Italo, electronica and techno. These electronic sounds are blended with the 80's influences of Kraftwerk and Suzanne Vega. "Creator," the lead single from their debut album Human Safari, is a jubilant exaltation of life featuring a triumphant chorus with a bright marimba motif. It's a new sound in the pop music landscape featuring emotional Calypso-tinged melodies and dance oriented beats. Prior to signing with Mute, Ora the Molecule self released 7 singles and had a sync use for "Sugar" on the Netflix series, Messiah. The album cover and physical packaging of Human Safari showcases the beautiful watercolor artwork of French artist Lola Favre.
When asked to describe the circumstances that influenced her beautifully fraught new work, Berlin-based musician Annika Henderson - better known simply as Anika - quickly articulates a set of feelings and unpredictable circumstances that are familiar to anyone who tried to make art - or simply tried to live through - the recent global pandemic. “It’s a moment caught in time,” she says of Change, her much-anticipated new record. Given that it has been 11 years since the release of her last solo album, 2010 cult-favorite Anika, the artist suddenly found herself with a lot to say. “This album had been planned for a little while and the circumstances of its inception were quite different to what had been expected. This colored the album quite significantly. The lyrics were all written there on the spot. It’s a vomit of emotions, anxieties, empowerment, and of thoughts like—How can this go on? How can we go on?”
Recorded at a time when literally everyone in the world was being forced to take stock, rethink, and reimagine their own place in the cosmos of things, Anika provides the wisened perspective of an outsider. It’s a perspective that is not lost on the British ex-pat and former political journalist. “‘Sand Witches’ is about England. My old home,” she says. “I gave up my UK passport when I moved to Berlin 10 years ago. Now I am a foreigner in both lands, belonging to neither. Sometimes I find it hard to recognize the place I came from.” Despite the subject matter and the circumstances around its creation, Change itself is ultimately a treatise on optimism. The title track presents the album’s message writ large: I think we can change; we all have things to learn, about ourselves and about each other. To end the record on such a sanguine note might be one of Change’s most revolutionary gestures. “Another book that affected the brain of this album was Hannah Arendt’s The Banality of Evil,” explains Anika. ”In the context of the Trump era, it was interesting to see how ‘evil’ was put on trial after his downfall. When evil loses, how is it put on trial? How do those who actually held the hand of evil during the evil, sneak into the seat of judge and Jury during the trial, booing with the crowd as if they had no involvement and were not cashing in on the evil’s wild rampage. How are all the evils pinned on that one individual as a way to pardon a whole society that partook in that evil? I suppose this is what Change is about, setting out the hope that we can change, that even those who cheered on the evil can ultimately change their ways.”
A mane of curly locks, a hilarious sense of humour, a lilting Irish brogue; Shiny Joe Ryan is a bit of an enigma. His musical offerings are as unique as he is – a mix of genres encompassing country, pop and rock, all mangled and mashed into something new, strange and tender.
Sometime during and between touring as crew for Tame Impala and performing with his band Pond, Joe wrote and recorded his second album Shiny’s Democracy at Tunafish Studios in Western Australia.
Effortlessly mixed by Ryan and his Pond bandmates, Jay Watson and James Ireland, and perfectly mastered by Kevin Parker, Shiny’s Democracy flows from heartfelt Americana lyrics to heart-thumping guitar solos.
Shiny’s Democracy opens with “I’m Singing a New Song”, a track that will echo a main theme in the album: Shiny Joe Ryan is not to be put in a box. From humorous tracks like “Ketamine” to soulful ballads seen in “Dad’s Hat”, Shiny’s Democracy is an album for anyone and everyone and a sign of a musician who wants to try everything once (or twice) with no plans of slowing down. You’ll find glimpses of his contributions to his band Pond in songs like “I’m Getting Older”, but Shiny Joe Ryan confidently carves a path all his own.
Written with a perfect balance of grit, wit, and expertly crafted instrumentals, this second album from Ryan will place Shiny Joe alongside Western Australian mainstays and mark his return from acclaimed 2014 album “The Cosmic Microwave Background”.

In the fall 2020, Page and Trey performed some songs outside on the deck of The Barn overlooking Vermont’s Green Mountains (a few of whiich were streamed during "The Beacon Jams" series). The pair reconvened in December to shoot more videos and as snow fell at The Barn, the mission evolved into the December album sessions during which Trey and Page rearranged a group of Phish song for piano and guitar, using alternate vocal harmonies and instrumentation to cover all four band members’ parts.
Russell Edling of Cherry would like to announce a moniker change to Golden Apples, and in do-ing so invite you to his new album "Shadowland". Taking cues from mid 2000s golden era indie rock and adding the inevitable realism that comes with being in your 30s, "Shadowland" is a rec-ord infused with the warmth and charm of the home where it was recorded, as well as the sense of anxiety and isolation that comes from staying there. It is a whimsical and at times resigned look at what it means to be a reflection, a shadow, something created by the shine of something else. "Shadowland" embraces it's imperfections to create an intimate and defined shape, all the more precious for it's decision to not to shine. It doesn't ask you to go blurry-eyed staring at the sun. Instead it invites you to find understanding in the shapes left by the sun's absence.
Anne-Marie’s second studio album, Therapy, is the official follow-up to her multi-platinum and four million-selling 2018 debut, Speak Your Mind [the UK’s biggest-selling debut release of that year]. An artist whose everywoman candour and knock-you-down vocal range has reverberated across the globe, Therapy is a collection of songs that embody A-M’s characterful artistry, self-effacing attitude and beautiful honesty; attributes that have not only catapulted Essex-born Anne-Marie to platinum status in the UK to the USA and everywhere in-between, but ones that have seen her reign supreme a fearless Gen Z role model.
With the full tracklisting yet to be announced, Mind Charity ambassador Anne-Marie is delighted to confirm that ‘Therapy’ will feature her already-released UK Top 3 and Gold-selling ‘Don’t Play’ with KSI and Digital Farm Animals; recent feel-good Nathan Dawe and MoStack collaboration ‘Way Too Long’; as well as the single and Niall Horan collaboration, ‘Our Song’, which the pair wrote with Phil Plested and TMS (Lewis Capaldi), with the latter also on production.
An album of candour and vivacity in equal measure, Anne-Marie wrote Therapy with Max Martin (Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift), Kamille (Little Mix, Headie One), MNEK, Raye, TMS, Blake Slatkin (The Kid Laroi, 24kGoldn), Ed Sheeran, Nathan Dawe and Plested (Lewis Capaldi) – production comes from Mojam (Aitch, Fredo), Fred Ball (Rihanna), TMS and Blake Slatkin.
Moonshadows, named for a glossy beach front Malibu bar where members of the Orgone crew DJed Saturday night sets, is the band's homage to yacht rock, sweater funk, and late night cruises on the Pacific Coast Highway. The genre-bending full-length album evokes neon and moonlight shimmering on ocean waves, undulating rhythms, martinis, and luxury convertibles. There’s nothing lightweight about this collection, however. All the hallmark elements of Orgone production — gritty, deep, authentic sounds and heavy beats — permeate this ten-song LP. For this album, Orgone pulled from its deep bench of talent to feature vocal performances and co-writing by Adryonde León, Woolfy, Masauko Chipembere, Terin Ector, Jamie Allensworth, and more. Moonshadows is a heady mix of lush vocals, classic drum tones, and late-70s vibes best served chilled in the late-night hours and made to keep you grooving through your second wind and into the hazy sunrise.
By going back to basics with Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge, Mudhoney flipped conventional wisdom. Not for the first time - or the last - they would be vindicated. A month after release in July 1991, the album entered the UK album chart at Number 34 (five weeks later, Nirvana's Nevermind entered at 36) and went on to sell 75,000 copies worldwide. A more meaningful measure of success, however, lay in it's revitalisation of the band, casting a touchstone for the future. The record is a major chapter in Mudhoney's ongoing story, the moral of which has to be: when in doubt, fudge it.The album began at Music Source Studio, a large space equipped with a 24-track mixing board - downright futuristic, compared to the 8-track setup that birthed the band's catalytic 1988 debut, "Touch Me I'm Sick." The Music Source session quickly turned into a false start when the results, in guitarist Steve Turner's words, "sounded a little too fancy, too clean." Lesson learned, the band went primitive and got to work at Conrad Uno's 8-track setup at Egg Studio. Named after the cartons pasted on the walls in an optimistic attempt at sound-proofing, Egg boasted a '60s vintage 8-track Spectra Sonics recording console, originally built for Stax in Memphis. So it was that, in the spring of 1991, Mudhoney made Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. The resulting album is a whirlwind of the band's influences at the time: the fierce '60s garage rock of their Pacific Northwest predecessors The Sonics and The Lollipop Shoppe, the gnashing post-hardcore of Drunks With Guns, the heavy guitar moods of Neil Young, the lysergic workouts of Spacemen 3 and Hawkwind, the gloomy existentialism of Zounds, and the satirical ferocity of '80s hardcore punk. The quartet's special alchemy meant these fond homages never slid into pastiche. Ultimately, Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge epitomised the best of Mudhoney: here was a band reconnecting with it's purest instincts, and in the process reinventing itself. This 30th anniversary edition, remastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service, stands as testimony to the creative surge that drove them in this period. The album sessions yielded a clutch of material that would subsequently appear on B-sides, compilations, and split-singles. This edition includes all those tracks, and a slew of previously unreleased songs, including the entire five-track Music Source session.
The story of Spud Cannon charts the emotional journey of finding oneself with vignettes of rock and roll highs and lows interspersed throughout. Spud Cannon's third full-length, Good Kids Make Bad Apples, bristles with an immediacy inspired in-part by all-night, definitely-allowed recording sessions at the Vassar squash courts. Each song recorded in the Wall of Sound-style court are pure takes capturing the energy of the Spud Cannon live experience in its purest form to date.
Influences is Kevin Drew's solo instrumental electronic project K.D.A.P. (Kevin Drew A Picture.) Written while hiking the forest trails of southern England, the record is a slideshow of intimate joyful moments against a backdrop of a world on fire, a rush-hour commute soundtrack for people stuck working from home, a celebration of survival and an elegy for lost friends. It’s a reminder that excitement and anxiety often elicit the same heart-pounding sensation. Out via Arts & Crafts.
Sob Rock is the new album from John Mayer, and this collection marks the artist’s eight full length studio album. Sob Rock is produced by John Mayer and Don Was, and most of the album was recorded during the global pandemic of 2020- 2021. The album was launched with the single and video, “Last Train Home.”
John Mayer emerged in 2001 with his debut album, Room For Squares. He has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, including three # 1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with the triple platinum Heavier Things in 2003, the double platinum Battle Studies in 2009, and the gold certified Born and Raised in 2012. His 2017 album, The Search For Everything, debuted at # 2 on the Billboard Top 200, and has also been certified gold. Additionally, he has earned 7 Grammy® Awards.
Debut album from Cleveland born, NYC-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer-songwriter, and artist Cautious Clay. Deadpan Love, which includes previously released singles “Roots,” “Dying In The Subtlety,” and “Agreeable,” warps influences from R&B, Hip Hop and Indie Pop in Cautious’ trademark sophisticated songwriting and jazz- and blues-inflected instrumentation. “Deadpan Love explores the ways I cope with the worst of what humanity has to offer,” says Cautious. “It’s about opposites—having an outer layer that’s tougher, this “deadpan” state, and an inner layer of compassion, where you’re open to being there for the people you care about. It’s this warring compassion and cynicism that has empowered me to express myself through this medium.”
200 km/h in the Wrong Lane, also titled t.A.T.u. in Japan, is the second, and first English-language, studio album by Russian music duo t.A.T.u., released on 10 December 2002, by Interscope Records. Coke Bottle Clear LP
The explosion of indie Hip Hop labels in the early 90s resulted in an ongoing snowball effect that started to shift the narrative around an artist’s need to sign to a major label. Coincidentally, quality home recording equipment was also becoming more easily accessible and, with the rising popularity of CD-R technology, this allowed artists to write, record, and manufacture their own albums right at home.
Appleseed was a highly celebrated and influential release from that era, cementing Aesop Rock as a new face whose talent could not be denied. The album explores creative concepts with inventive writing and stripped-down yet melodic and melancholic production. Six out of the eight songs were produced byAesop Rock, with OmegaOne producing “Sick Friend” and longtime collaborator Blockhead handling “1000 Deaths”, and the project’s sole guest lyricist was Doseone.
The DIY process was followed in every aspect, as Aesop himself recalls, “I did the Appleseed hand style while working at Tepper Galleries in NYC. The cover was made at Kinko’s. The first Appleseed CD’s were CD-R’s I duped at home and sold from my backpack at an MF DOOM show at Brownies, which was right below my apartment at the time. I continued to sell hand to hand inNY, while Blockhead started fielding some mail orders from a young internet. People would send us cash or a check, and he’d cut the covers out and mail them off.“
The two of them were able to move a couple thousand CDs that way before turning their attention to newer projects, particularly Float in Aesop’s case. As a result, Appleseed went out of print for many years before resurfacing as a merch item on tour. However, in all that time it was only available on CD, directly from Aesop.
Finally, 21 years after its debut, Appleseed officially returns, now available on vinyl for the first time!
Acid Dad is an American alternative-rock band composed of singer-guitarists, Vaughn Hunt and Sean Fahey, and drummer, Trevor Mustoe. Vaughn first started recording the band in his Bushwick, NY basement releasing singles “Brain Body” and their first EP “Let’s Plan a Robbery.” Appearing live in the New York City rock scene in 2016, Acid Dad quickly moved to a world stage with their self-titled debut album, released by Greenway Records in 2018.
During 2020, the band spent their time building a new studio space in Queens, NY, while continuing to independently produce all their own music, art and even building their own guitars. With a new space and vision, the band produced their second LP, “Take It From The Dead,” set to be co-released in June 2021 by Brooklyn’s Greenway Records and psych powerhouse LEVITATION’s label, The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
“Take It From The Dead” features an array of different influences ranging from 90’s neo-psych, modern post-punk and 70’s rock-n-roll. Acid Dad has crafted a record that sounds new, yet feels nostalgic. In contrast to their earlier work, they make use of slower tempos and expand their sound to include songs that are both more intricate and more hypnotic. To accompany the new record, the band spent the last year collaborating with video artist Webb Hunt, producing psych and glitch art videos that form a visual counterpart to the dreamy distortions of their sound.
At the top of 2020, after a year of traversing the globe in support of 2019’s Run Fast Sleep Naked, Nick Murphy began creating music that simply felt good. Though the singer had retired his billionstreaming Chet Faker project four years prior, the new songs he was working on in his New York City studio had an energy reminiscent of his earlier work. Reviving the project “wasn’t on my radar” at the time, Murphy admits, but the next thing he knew, he had a full album. The result is Hotel Surrender, a radiant 10-track LP full of swaggering bass lines and electrifying melodies that reintroduces Chet Faker to the world – and to Murphy himself. Like his debut LP, 2014’s Built on Glass, Murphy wrote and produced Hotel Surrender solely on his own, finishing most of the songs before COVID-19 hit in March 2020. He admits that before Hotel Surrender, he had never approached his process with such ease. This time, as the album title suggests, he surrendered to the music. “There was this, like, unconsciousness—not thinking, but just feeling, letting it come out and letting it steer itself,” Murphy says. “The great lesson for me was that I could write from a place of joy. I was also just being kind to myself. None of this music was hurting, it just felt good. It made me feel better, and it helped me be better.”
A much-deserved and open armed 20th anniversary celebration of Opeth’s magnum opus. The reissue comes lovingly pressed with a variety of deluxe finishes and housed in a gatefold artwork sleeve, with updated liner notes and acknowledgements. Hologram is the first release from New York Post-Punk legends A Place To Bury Strangers on their own newly formed label, Dedstrange. Hologram is the follow up to their highly regarded fifth album, Pinned, and is a sonic return to A Place To Bury Strangers’ rawest, most unhinged sound. With songs addressing the decay of connections, friendships lost, and the trials and tribulations of these troubled times, Hologram serves as an abstract mirror to the moment we live in. Written and recorded during the on-going global pandemic and in the midst of the decline of civilization, Hologram is a sonic vaccine to the horrors of modern life.

Also, Kevin Morby joins Rateliff and the band for an amazing version of Leonard Cohen’s “There Is a War.”
Global superstar Tones And I has announced her widely anticipated debut album, Welcome To The Madhouse, which will arrive worldwide on July 16th. Welcome To The Madhouse stands out as a deeply reflective and personal body of work for Tones And I, with the Australian artist writing the entire album by herself and co-producing every song.
Tones And I commented on the significance of Welcome To The Madhouse explaining, “This album for me is very up and down and reflects the forever changing emotions in me.There are songs on the album that were written before ‘Dance Monkey,’ about not knowing if busking was right for me. There are songs about my good friend T passing away and not wanting to deal with those emotions. The ups and downs of life in lock down and the mental challenges / struggles. Some songs make me laugh and some make me cry but there is no running theme or vibe to the album - the songs are unique to how I was feeling the day I wrote them.”
Regarding the album's lead single, “Cloudy Day,” Tones And I elaborated on the single’s origins noting, “After my friend T passed away I was struggling to write any songs that were happy or that I even liked. I met up with a friend who told me this saying from his late mum – ‘on a cloudy day, look up into the sky and find the sun.’ I knew I wanted to use that as a lyric and the next time I went into the studio I wrote ‘Cloudy Day.’”
Tones And I Initially laid the foundation for Welcome To The Madhouse last year with the release of “Fly Away,” a poetic and powerful composition which has amassed over 190 million streams with Tones And I delivering performances of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She followed it up in 2021 with the release of “Won’t Sleep,” which arrived alongside a Tones And I, Nick Kozakis and Liam Kelly directed official music video continuing what has become a tradition of highly unexpected and unforgettable visuals. Both tracks reflected the inimitable idiosyncrasies of Tones And I’s signature style, highlighting her clever lyricism, unpredictable songcraft, and indisputable knack for a hook
As her name indicates LoneLady writes, performs and records all the components of her music, building up her own soundworlds in a solitary creative process. Whereas previous albums at least allowed the occasional appearance of another human - a drummer - with Former Things even that has now gone. This time, LoneLady has programmed all the beats and sequences, swapping her Telecaster guitar for an eclectic selection of synthesisers and hardware, their limitless creative potential providing the foundations to take the album in a new direction. Former Things is a glowing assemblage of memory we want to preserve: a myth that we protect in our minds, to remember across the ages and inspire us always.
Music from The Allman Brothers Band—Live At The Atlanta International Pop Festival was initially released by Columbia Records in 1971 and featured select cuts from sets by ABB, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Poco, Sly and the Family Stone and others. The Allman Brothers Band Atlanta Pop set was issued in full by Sony Legacy in 2003. The Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969 and their epic live performances and platinum-selling records would make them one of the biggest rock bands in America. They’re members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and have received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and Billboard’s Legend Of Live award. The group played their final show in 2014. Earlier this month, the group announced the October 16, 2020 releases of The Final Note (Duane Allman’s last show in 1971) and The Best Show You Never Heard (a band-favorite live show from 2005).

They look like we do, and may live somewhat the same. Yet, they are multiplied. Where once was Superwolf, now are Superwolves. What world, REALLY are Matt Sweeney and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy from? A place of all-music, knowing no borders, no morals other than natural tribal lines to be violated in the name of love and light, for all together.
Charlie Benante, the legendary drummer from Anthrax, has released Silver Linings, a solo project with a lot of help from his friends. When COVID hit hard and stay-at-home orders were issued, Anthrax's Charlie Benante found he had all kinds of time to rediscover and fall in love again with music he hadn't listened to in a long time. That gave him a great idea, and he enlisted musician buddies to get together and jam these great songs. Charlie's new album, Silver Linings, is those jams.
Charlie Benante's first solo album. With special guests on each track including Run-DMC.
"More than being just the band's drummer, Charlie brings a variety of skills and talents to Anthrax. Long before recording begins, Charlie starts writing a plethora of riffs for new songs, then emails them to Scott Ian and Frank Bello - these are the three main writers for all Anthrax songs. The three flesh out the ideas over email, then get together in a rehearsal studio to begin the serious writing. Benate also conceives and oversees all of Anthrax's artwork, including the packaging for the band's album/single/DVD/reissue releases, ads, marketing tools, and merchandise items. Outside of Anthrax, Charlie has his own line of coffee, Dark Matter, and is an obsessive collector - paraphernalia and rarities from "The Simpsons," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and "Star Wars," as well as a scaled-down replica of the shark from "Jaws."
Alice Coltrane is the undeniable godmother of spiritual jazz and an acknowledged influence on everyone from Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington to Solange and Radiohead. Turyia Sings was originally released in 1982 on cassette as a collection of devotional songs including vocals, organ, strings, and synthesizers available only at Alice’s Sai Anantam Ashram. Kirtan: Turiya Sings features a sparser arrangement of organ and chanting, produced by Ravi Coltrane. This is intentional, devotional music created with the purpose of connecting to a higher power.
Chloe Flower is a visionary, a powerhouse, an icon, an activist, a fashion influencer, and so much more. Bridging the gap between classical and pop, Chloe’s self-created Popsical genre embodies sweet melodies, epic strings, and hip-hop beats blending with impressive aplomb.
Chloe has been working on her eponymous debut album for over a decade. Living through the COVID-19 pandemic not only changed Chloe’s life, but also the course of her music. The stay-home period was a clear signal to take ownership and to create an album which matters and speaks volumes. Chloe’s album is divided into three acts — (I) Innocence, (II) Suffering and (III) Hope — and book-ended by a prelude and finale that redefine classical crossover. It features spoken word from Deepak Chopra and an interpretation of Billie Eilish’s chart-topping hit ‘Bad Guy.’
Of her album Chloe states: “I was thinking about the life cycle. You start with innocence; born with a clean slate. Throughout life there is suffering which hardens you. But there’s always hope for change, something better. I want people to listen to the album as a whole body of work, which is why there is a prelude and finale in addition to the three acts. The ultimate goal was to make an album that inspires listeners, and makes people hopeful. It’s new and edgy — a sound that is authentic to me. Though my music doesn’t have lyrics, I still have something to say.”
Vinyl LP pressing. Myths and truths of a country on the way down, viewed through a deep-focus lens trained on the city from the deserts on the east; a terminus of unoccupied residential parks and streets fading into craggy footpaths to nowhere, where our passage is seen as diligent, ephemeral and grotesque by turns, forgiven and made beautiful again by the sound.
As the biggest-selling U.K. breakthrough artist of 2020 with his debut LP Dissimulation and scoring six Top 10 singles including collaborations with Rick Ross, Trippie Redd and Tion Wayne, alongside latest hits with Craig David, Anne-Marie and Yungblud, Olajide 'JJ' Olatunji aka KSI returns with his highly anticipated second studio album, All Over the Place. The 14-track LP includes the three previously released singles "Really Love," "Don't Play" and "Patience" as well as new tracks with features from rappers Future and 21 Savage, music artist Jay1, singer Gracey and more.
Forest Green Vinyl. Across two records that spoke to the quietest of bleeding hearts, Harmony Woods expanded on processing grief, trauma, and other aftermaths. GRACEFUL RAGE-their third and Bartees Strange-produced LP-allows revelations to blossom on their own terms. It's the Philly band at their most aware and assured, snug behind a radio-ready punch.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Soundtrack - Ramona Flowers Edition LP is pressed on three separate colors of vinyl, randomly inserted into packaging: Translucent blue, green, and magenta. Each color is associated with Ramona Flowers’ hair in the film.
Through Ignorance, Tamara Lindeman has remade what The Weather Station sounds like, using the occasion of a new record to create a novel sonic landscape, tailor-made to express an emotional idea. Ignorance is sensuous, ravishing, as hi-fi a record as Lindeman has ever made, breaking into pure pop at moments, at others a dense wilderness of notes; a deeply rhythmic and painful record that feels more urgent and clear than her work ever has. The natural world is everywhere on this record, intruding with force and poignancy.
Rock ‘n’ roll is often hard to define, or even to find, in these fractured musical times. But to paraphrase an old saying, you know it when you hear it.
And you always hear it with The Wallflowers. For the past 30 years, the Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s Glad All Over.
But while it’s been nine long years since we’ve heard from the group with whom he first made his mark, the Wallflowers are silent no more. And Dylan always knew they’d return. “The Wallflowers is much of my life’s work,” he says simply. That life’s work continues with Exit Wounds, the brand-new Wallflowers studio offering. The collection marks the first new Wallflowers material since Glad All Over.
Exit Wounds, which, true to its title, is an ode to people – individual and collective – that have, to put it mildly, been through some stuff.
“I think everybody – no matter what side of the aisle you’re on – wherever we’re going to next, we're all taking a lot of exit wounds with us,” Dylan says. “Nobody is the same as they were four years ago. That, to me, is what Exit Wounds signifies. And it's not meant to be negative at all. It just means that wherever you’re headed, even if it’s to a better place, you leave people and things behind, and you think about those people and those things and you carry them with you. Those are your exit wounds. And right now, we’re all swimming in them.”
This LP finally brings a Clipping fan-favorite, 2016’s Wriggle, onto vinyl in an improved, expanded version that features new art, previously unreleased remixes, and a track that’s exclusive to the vinyl format.
The original, digital-only Wriggle EP was six tracks that weren’t finished in time to make it onto the group’s 2014 Sub Pop debut, CLPPNG. For “Shooter,” Clipping recorded themselves firing fifteen dierent guns, the sounds of which exclusively constituted the beat’s drums, augmented only by a synthesized tone-row. The verses referenced the well-worn technique of “hashtag rap,” but instead of using it to boast about the rapper’s personal wealth and masculine prowess, Clipping put forth imagistic narratives of three violent encounters. True to much of the group’s music, “Shooter” was an attempt to reframe a familiar style and test the limits of its formal capabilities. “Hot Fuck No Love” contains what might be the most explicit verse to date from Clipping’s favorite New Jersey rapper Cakes Da Killa. The EP’s title track, “Wriggle,” was built around a sample of the influential power-electronics song “Wriggle Like a Fucking Eel” by Whitehouse, transforming William Bennett’s torturous imperative into a instructional dance-floor banger. “Wriggle” and “Shooter” have become classic Clipping tracks and staples of their live show.
With this vinyl edition, Clipping fans old and new - and there are many new fans thanks to their breakout 2020 album, Visions of Bodies Being Burned, and Daveed Diggs’ thriving acting career - get the vinyl version of Wriggle they’ve been clamoring for.
With her musical project Half Waif, Nandi Rose dives deep into the waters of artistic expression by layering evocative vocals and synths to create a powerful form of pop music. On Mythopoetics, Rose ex- plores a full spectrum of sounds that sparkle with memorable hooks, otherworldly production and uplifting grooves. “This is the record I’ve been trying to make for 10 years,” Rose says.
Previous albums The Caretaker (2020) and Lavender (2018) garnered acclaim for their compelling journeys through solitude, desire and the search for independence. Half Waif declares a new chapter on Mytho- poetics, a collection of 12 new songs – mythical stories that transcend time, each sung with a glorious contralto wrapped up in synths and electronic percussion, and her lyrical piano serving as the backbone. It is an essential reminder that we have the power to shape the stories we tell and the myths we make of our lives. This is music that you feel.
Oliver Wood is a testament to slow and steady wins the race. Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, he relocated to Atlanta in his early twenties to pursue a career in music. Gaining a reputation over a ten year period as one of the premier working musicians on the local Georgia music scene, he was invited to join blues legend Tinsley Ellis’ road band. From there, Oliver would form his own group, King Johnson, who’d build a loyal regional following. When opening for his brother Chris’ band, Medeski Martin & Wood, he was invited to sit in, which instantly reminded them of the deep musical bond they shared. Soon thereafter, The Wood Brothers were born. They’ve since gone on to release seven studio albums, perform high profile shows from Red Rocks to Bonnaroo and earn a Grammy Award-nomination.
Until the release of “Soul Of This Town” and “The Battle Is Over," in 2020, Oliver had never stepped out under his own name as a solo artist. 'Always Smilin'' is a strong opening statement from Oliver as a solo artist, and one that sets him apart as an accomplished singer and songwriter outside of his day job with The Wood Brothers.
Almost 50 years after the sessions that would make them an “accidental Texas supergroup” (Rolling Stone), The Flatlanders have returned with Treasure of Love, their first new album in more than a decade. Completed during COVID-19 lockdowns with the help of longtime friend and collaborator Lloyd Maines, the record finds the iconic trio of Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Butch Hancock in classic form, serving up a rollicking collection of twang-fueled, harmony-laden performances full of wry humor and raw heartbreak. While a few songs here are never-before-heard originals, the vast majority of the tracklist consists of tunes the band picked up during their half-century together, some stretching as far back as the group’s earliest performances in the honkytonks around Lubbock, TX, where you might have spotted Willie Nelson or Townes Van Zandt in the audience.
Largely ignored by press and radio, the initial incarnation of The Flatlanders lasted only a few years before disbanding in 1973. In the decades to come, however, Ely, Gilmore, and Hancock would all go on to considerable success as solo artists, and with the 1990 reissue of their long lost debut, The Flatlanders finally received their due. Critics hailed them as visionaries and craftsmen of the highest caliber (The New York Times dubbed their first LP a “founding document of the alternative country movement”), and the trio would spend the next 30 years collaborating and touring on and off again to widespread acclaim.

Originally conceived as a medium for Chicago-based multi-media artist/activist Damon Locks’s sample-based sound collage work, Black Monument Ensemble (BME) has evolved from a solo mission into a vibrant collective of artists, musicians, singers, and dancers making work with common goals of joy, compassion, and intention. A genuinely multi-generational collective, ages of BME members range from 9 to 52 years old; members include instrumentalists and fellow IARC recording artists Angel Bat Dawid and Ben LaMar Gay. Their debut album Where Future Unfolds was released in 2019 by International Anthem glowing praise; landing at #3 on Bandcamp’s “Best Albums of the Year,” #25 on WIRE Magazine’s “Best Albums of 2019,” and being repeatedly dubbed “The Best Album of 2019” by BBC/Worldwide radio titan Gilles Peterson.
Locks & BME’s new album NOW was created in the final throes of Summer 2020, following months of pandemic-induced fear & isolation, the explosion of social unrest, struggle & violence in the streets, and as the certain presence of a new reality had fully settled in. Set up safely in the garden behind Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio, the music was recorded in only a few takes, capturing the first times members of BME had ever played or sang the tunes. For Locks, the impetus was more about getting together to commune and make art than it was about producing an album. In his words: “It was about offering a new thought. It was about resisting the darkness. It was about expressing possibility. It was about asking the question, ‘Since the future has unfolded and taken a new and dangerous shape... what happens NOW?’”

MARCO VEZZOSO and ALESSANDRO COLLINA, the jazz duo that has conquered the countries of the Rising Sun!The disc collects 10 of the most beautiful songs of Italian music reinterpreted in a refined instrumental version for trumpet, piano, and percussion. The artists offer a skilful reinterpretation of unforgettable pieces, creating a generational bridge between pop music and jazz. This live version is also a tribute to the artistic partnership between Vezzoso and Collina, which began in Japan and reached China via Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In the 'Italian Spirit live' project we decided to invite the percussionist Andrea Marchesini. Andrea is a highly talented and experienced musician who, like us, loves contamination between genres. It was therefore easy for us to integrate Andrea's artistic vein, who adapted very well to our playing. Indeed, he did much more, enriching the pieces with rhythmic details, sometimes almost melodic, without ever being invasive.Since their first musical meeting in 2014, the duo formed by the Piedmontese trumpeter Marco Vezzoso (who since 2012 lives and teaches at the National Conservatory of Nice) and the jazz pianist Alessandro Collina has come a long way. They have 5 albums, numerous concerts between France and Italy and several international tours. In 2015 their first tour in Japan, "Live in Osaka" was recorded and released from a Japanese label. In 2017, a long summer tour takes them to perform in Cambodia, Indonesia and again in Japan, with a closing concert in Tokyo. In 2018 a new tour in Indonesia and Malaysia and a series of concerts in the Czech Republic. In 2019 2 tours in China where they represented Italy at the first edition of the European jazz festival in Guangzhou and a tour in Norway, followed by one in Turkey. The duo ranges from a repertoire of great classics of past and contemporary Italian music to revive emotions in Italians far from their homeland. The interplay and harmony between the musicians, creates an intense musical continuum with a strong emotional impact, which guides the audience on a musical journey within the universe of the duo turned trio.

The infamous MAYHEM return this year with an outstanding EP called "Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando" with additional material from the "Daemon" session, including a homage to bands that laid the foundation for what was to come! The EP will be released on July 9th.
The lords of darkness have dug deep and reflected their influences to create a musical odyssey that shows them multifaceted in several ways.
For this goal, cover versions of bands like DISCHARGE, DEAD KENNEDYS, RUDIMENTARY PENI and RAMONES were chosen, which in typical MAYHEM manner impressively fit into their bursting and darkened sound.
The band also recruited BILLY MESSIAH and MANIAC, who took over vocal performances on two songs!
In addition to the named cover versions, a previously unreleased track called "Voces Ab Alta" is featured on the EP, which continues the musical journey alongside "Black Glass Communion" and "Everlasting Dying Flame", which were used as bonus tracks for the 2019 album "Daemon".
The EP thus closes the capital, which was opened with the release of "Daemon" back in 2019 and illuminates the band once again in typical unusual and surprising-sounding way.
The visual concept was once again handled by Italian designer Daniele Valeriani (Lucifer's Child, Dark Funeral) who already took care of the artwork for their previous long player "Daemon".
The band comments:
"I always had some punk influences," says Attila. "I guess it comes from my childhood when we were constantly looking for more extreme music. That's how I discovered Dead Kennedys, GBH, The Exploited, Sex Pistols, U.K. Subs, Discharge, Rudimentary Peni and so on, in the early 80's, alongside heavy metal. But then I discovered Venom, that was a game changer!"

Like thousands of artists, Williams cut her teeth and developed her craft by playing in small, medium, and large clubs throughout the country, and the world. These venues are vital to the development of artists and their music. Williams has never forgotten her roots, and often performs special shows in some of her favorite halls.
This year, the Lu's Jukebox Series will be made widely available on Vinyl and CD. Volume 1, Running Down A Dream: A Tribute to Tom Petty, was released on April 16, 2021, and featured songs from the namesake's celebrated career.

Whispering Sons have captured Belgium's hearts, selling 10K records (that's gold record standard in Belgium), opening mainstage Rock Werchter and being nominated for 4 MIAS. Known for their dark and unique blend of experimental and frenetic post-punk, they follow their 2018 debut Image with Several Others. Having retreated to the Ardennes last summer to work on new material, the band took the strongest parts of their earlier work and refined it even further with a strong focus on their greatest strength - sheer, unpretentious intensity. Whispering Sons have constantly outstripped their own expectations, and with every momentous step forward, they redraw the boundaries of what they consider possible, then duly go beyond them yet again. "Every song we write is closer to the thing we really want to do. Without making compromises," Fenne says.
Angel Dream is a special reimagining of the album She’s The One to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its original release. This also brings to a close the celebration of Tom Petty’s masterpiece Wildflowers, as most of the songs on this album were recorded during the same time period. She’s The One included some songs that were left off the original Wildflowers album, recently included in the Wildflowers & All The Rest re-issue. To take the place of those songs, four previously unreleased songs have been added here – two Petty originals (“105 Degrees” and “One of Life’s Little Mysteries”), a cover of JJ Cale’s “Thirteen Days”, and the instrumental “French Disconnection”. An extended version of “Supernatural Radio” is also included. The album has been remixed & remastered and brand new cover art commissioned – emphasizing that this is a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers album, rather than a soundtrack album.
The Go! Team return with Get Up Sequence Part One featuring the singles 'Cookie Scene', 'World Remember Me Now' and 'Pow'. We're talking widescreen, four-track, channel hopping sounds that are instantly recognizable.

2021 release. "Better Mistakes, my sophomore album, is by far the most challenging yet fulfilling project I have ever worked on. I wrote, recorded, re-wrote, re-recorded and then repeated that process in order to deliver an album that truly reflects who I am as a singer, songwriter and most importantly as an artist. I want to give listeners a journey of pop paradise fused with elements of rock and hip-hop. It's important to me that my music continues to recognize ongoing themes of vulnerability, the cycle of self-destruction & self-realization, and female empowerment."

Vinyl LP pressing Marina Allen glides on angelic highs, surfing the husky deep; she is one of the great new voices of her generation. Writing songs that carry notes from other realms; these are kitchen table tales about love and fear, the capturing of the wild heart, sketching the breaking of dawn, bringing real life back to life. Every song on this debut album 'Candlepower' is a tick box of influences, asides, inspirations, quickfire theories, storylines and melodic progressions that galvanise a chemical reaction for each dramatic scene that unfolds. One listen to opening track 'Oh, Louise' underlines the range of Marina's talent, it's a filmic play on words, with an arrangement that's like a Kate Bush dream sequence. It's the perfect foil for the plaintive strum of 'Sleeper Train', a haunting, folky paean fit for Judee Sill brought up to date with some echoey electric guitar.

Vinyl LP pressing. One of the most exciting musical talents to come out of the UK, Laura Mvula returns with highly anticipated studio album, Pink Noise. This album is an example of her newly found light, still reflecting her distinctive signature sound - her inventive, atmospheric mix of R&B, jazz, classical, and pop - but also showing the progression of an artist who has come into her own. Pink Noise is the blend of neo-soul meets art pop in a new cosmic realm filled with confessional lyricism and compelling synth pop."This is the album I always wanted make", says Laura Mvula, "Every corner is made warm with sunset tones of the 80s. I was born in 1986. I came out of the womb wearing shoulder pads. I absorbed the dynamism of the 80s aesthetic right from my first moments on this planet. Wrestling with identity seems to be one of the rites of passage of the established artist. Making Pink Noise felt like the most violent of emotional wrestling matches. It took 3 years of waiting and waiting and fighting and dying and nothingness and then finally an explosion of sound. As if it was always here, this record is my most honest and unapologetic flying of the freedom flag. In my adult years, I had forgotten how important dance was to me as a vital tool of my creative expression. I brought it back, just for me, so I could find my delight in dance again. And now I can't stop dancing."
On Slothrust’s latest album, bandleader Leah Wellbaum pushed herself to try and understand her own spirituality on a deeper level, putting a lens on the core wound of the human experience, the idea that we’re alone. With Parallel Timeline , Wellbaum explores the feeling of being trapped inside her own consciousness while simultaneously searching for a meaningful connection to the universe, and all the mysteries it contains.
Focusing on their craft, staying out of the fray, and holding fast their faith to find new ways to express the discord and delight of being alive, to turn the duality of existence into hymns we can share, Low present HEY WHAT. These ten pieces—each built around their own instantaneous, undeniable hook—are turbocharged by the vivid textures that surround them. The ineable, familiar harmonies of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker break through the chaos like a life raft. Layers of distorted sound accrete with each new verse - building, breaking, colossal then restrained, a solemn vow only whispered. There will be time to unravel and attribute meaning to the music and art of these times, but the creative moment looks FORWARD, with teeth. HEY WHAT is Low's thirteenth full-length release in twenty-seven years, and their third with producer BJ Burton.
Pokey LaFarge’s 7th studio solo album, In the Blossom of Their Shade, showcases the positivity of coming out of the darkness and into the light. When the 2020 global pandemic hit, LaFarge’s rigorous work ethic powered him through the potentially challenging creative period. As days became a couple months, songs blossomed from embryonic ideas into full-formed ones and he was ready to move on, which typified his mindset as a working artist. With this record LaFarge captures the thematic notion of being the perfect summer afternoon soundtrack...the type of music you want to listen to while having a cocktail with your significant other. It makes sense musically as well — LaFarge intentionally crafted songs that created space and have melodies that can glide throughout a composition that’s a far cry from the swing and blues-infused songs of his earlier work. LaFarge is an artist who refuses to rest on his laurels and compromise. He’s always motivated and ready to create. With In the Blossom of Their Shadethe album is one of LaFarge’s strongest and most mature efforts to date.

Bauhaus, L'Appartamento, produced and mixed by Younghusband's Euan Hinshelwood, firmly establishes Bardo's musical adventurousness and prowess, and marks a cathartic and self-affirming moment for an artist who found her voice by realizing it's been there all along. Each track on the album opens a new door. In the resonant and memorable opener 'The Most,' Bardo is bold in her declaration of romance and devotion. The twinkling, gauzy guitars of 'Do This To Me' find Bardo world-weary and desperate for resolution. The off-kilter distortion of 'Impossible' and its spoken word in her native tongue see Bardo's Italian roots become entwined with the '90s American artists whose music continues to inspire her. She raises awareness for the importance of mental health with last year's single 'It's Okay (To Not Be Okay)'. The album is best summed up by the woman who wrote it all: 'Bauhaus, L'Appartamento is about loneliness, solitude, separation...but also unconditional love,' Bardo reveals of the record's overarching themes. 'Family, emotional dependency, mental health issues, feelings of emptiness and numbness, feelings of not being enough, inability to be in control of my own emotions, self-doubt, self-reflection, past traumas and dealing with them.'
Andrea von Kampen’sThat Spell is an emotionally evocative powerhouse. It’s cinematic and sweeping — with literary references, reflections on nature, and above all the ability to transport you to a memory, a place in time, or somewhere you saw in a dream with vivid lucidity. Like a film director, she works as an aural auteur building scenes with her rapturous voice and the plaintive plucks of her guitar strings.
A Beautiful Life is the first new music from Heartless Bastards since 2015’s Restless Ones. The album was produced by Kevin Ratterman (Strand Of Oaks, Jim James, White Reaper). The music is a melange of blues rock, rock and singer-songwriter which surround themes about self-love and awareness, mental health, the environment, and consumerism.
Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore, recently celebrated the surprise release of her second solo project, FLOWERS for VASES / descansos. The gripping album was written and performed in its entirety by Hayley Williams, a career first for the music industry titan. Recorded at her home in Nashville, the 14-track album spans from stories of love to stories of loss. “In a world that often requires us to ignore our deepest needs, Hayley Williams does not provide a light at the end of the tunnel or a closed door, but a new body, a new tongue, and possibly a new frame of reference to survive and even thrive,” writes NPR. Named one of the best albums of the year so far by outlets such as Rolling Stone and SPIN.

Frances Forever can spin anything into sunshine. As the project of Boston-area singer-songwriter Frances Garrett, its myriad moods can send listeners reeling into romance or off floating in existential space. Garrett balances their familiarity with extremes with an undeniable ear for melody and a gift for writing tracks that could live at home anywhere on the pop timeline. paranoia party, the project's first EP in the wake of TikTok explosion 'space girl,' rockets forward with the past half-century of radio magic in its back pocket. Atop this glitter-shocked display, Garrett spills their guts about fumbling their own power. Take one listen to 'space girl,' Frances' latest charmer of a single that's rocketing up indie charts and TikTok counts despite a disaster mission of a year. The track continues to grow, with 80MM+ streams globally, 57 Viral Spotify Charts, 265k average daily streams, and over 535 million video views and 500k videos created on Tik Tok. Frances Forever has been hotly tipped as one of the top artists to watch in 2021: featured in lists by Rolling Stone, SPIN, Amazon Music, GQ UK, Uproxx, and recently named as one of Pigeons & Planes best new artists. paranoia party further seals their fate as a breakout act, showing off Frances Forever's mastery of vintage texture and 2021 attention spans in equal measure. From the doo-wop glaze of opener 'depression' to the horn-flecked indietronica of 'daytime,' paranoia party carves its identity from stopovers in darker, braver territory. Those enchanted by 'space girl' have plenty to root for, though, as the EP's title track serves as its boldest mission statement, stacking a story of college-party anxiety against a circus-tent waltz that glitches and stutters in line with Garrett's narrative confidence.

"I've got plenty of energy, it's my currency" sings Amy Taylor on the opening track of Comfort To Me. After the release of Amyl and The Sniffers (2019), the band conquered the world one club gig and festival stage at a time. Their unrelenting, jaw dropping live show propelled them to must see status and prompted The Guardian to declare AATS “the single most exhilarating rock’n’roll show I’ve seen in years.” Comfort To Me is somehow both heavier and more awesome than their debut and fully captures the chaotic energy of their live show.

Riddy Arman opens her debut album from La Honda Records with a song called “Spirits, Angels, Or Lies” inspired by the true story of her father’s passing. In the lyrics, she examines the human tendency to interpret the unknown. The story she weaves details the final moments and visual hallucinations experienced when Johnny Cash visited her father on his deathbed. Long-time fans of Arman will recognize the song from her viral performance video, shot by Western AF in a Montana rail link boxcar, where the world was introduced to her distinct, sultry lope.
Against the bucolic and industrial backdrop of the video, Arman is clearly in her element, clad with ranch worn clothing. It is obvious she lives a lifestyle many romanticize, but few truly understand. However, Arman is more than just a cowboy, singing her lonely songs. The chapters of her life so far make for a story much richer than a common western archetype. Unafraid to take new paths, Arman has traveled across the country — from the farmlands of the Midwest to the bustling streets of New York City — writing songs, working as a ranch hand, and practicing an Agrarian lifestyle. It was during her childhood, full of folk and country music, in rural Ohio that she was first drawn to the guitar. Her deep dive into songwriting didn’t happen until her early 20s when she moved to central Virginia to resume her interest in horsemanship and agriculture on a friend’s small farm.
It was there, knee-deep in barn chores, that she found inspiration in female songwriting icons. The quiet isolation led to inspiration and a tangible way to heal through story. “Singing is my meditation, and I learned that in the imagery of Virginia,” Arman says of her growth during that time of her life. “It sets the stage for healing.”
With the encouragement of friend and fellow musician Kiki Cavazos, Arman began to feel more comfortable with a guitar in her hand. They often played together when passing through, and Arman credits Cavazos as her main inspiration. After Virginia, she headed west, taking a job at a farm in California where she spent four years working the land and learning livestock agriculture. In the sunburnt hills of ranch country, Arman fell in love, fell out of love, and found the beginning of her new record. Looking for a change of scenery, she found herself in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where many of the songs that would make up her self-titled debut record first came to life.
In the midst of this intensely creative period, Arman’s close friend overdosed. She headed to New Orleans in the wake of this loss and surrounded herself with the support and inspiration of several of her oldest and dearest friends. While in the Crescent City, Arman often joined her friend Nick Shoulders, playing shows around the Lower 9th Ward and downtown New Orleans. These stints on the stage served to bolster her confidence to perform and became just the catalyst Arman needed to keep going.
As fate would have it, Arman was invited to ranch sit in Montana, where she was contacted by content creators at Western AF at the behest of several New Orleans musicians. Not too long after the unexpected success of her Western AF session, Arman began an intensive six-day recording session at Mississippi Studios in Portland, Oregon. Hopeful, and longing to capture the essence of deeply personal stories from her life, she teamed up with producer Bronson Tew (Dom Flemons, Seratones, Jimbo Mathus) of Dialback Sound and tracked nine songs.
“Recording these songs brought me back to the times that inspired them, but instead of reliving the pain, the studio magic empowered me to overcome it,” Arman says of her experience.
The first song she wrote for the record, “Half a Heart Keychain,” started off as a slow and somber breakup tune. With the help of Tew, the track morphed into a triumphant and transformative anthem for women. Moving forward from some of life’s most painful moments is in many ways the thread that ties each song together. Songwriting became part of Arman’s dialog with life, translating the experiences in not only lyrics, but also performance.
“Most people would try to find a therapist, but at the time that wasn't something that I had access to, so I just started playing music because it was cathartic,” she explains. “It’s very, very meditative for me.”
While tracks like “Half a Heart Keychain” and “Too Late to Write a Love Song” allowed Arman to heal, her debut LP is far from just a breakup album. Her songs are rooted in the poetic imagery of country life, from the beauty of its simplicity to the isolation and loneliness that can often overtake its inhabitants.
“Old Maid’s Draw” is a song about the landscape where Arman has worked, an area mythologized by locals with the tale of a woman who lived alone in the early settling days of Montana. “Problems Of My Own” is rooted in classic country songwriting, exploring the darkness that can lurk within family life. With simple references to classic scenes, such as bacon frying in cast iron pans, the song explores the urge to escape.
Arman’s take on Kris Kristofferson’s beloved classic “Help Me Make It Through The Night” fits perfectly alongside her originals, with her aching vocals at center stage. “Barbed Wire” was written during her time working as a ranch hand and wisely recalls the seclusion and longing that can come while living on the range.
“A lot of folks distract themselves with work. It is a common trait of cowboys and ranchers alike,” Arman says. “In the song ‘Barbed Wire’ the cowboy understands who he is, but not how he relates to other people, so it is easier to be alone.”
Arman herself has chosen to take a different path, embracing isolation and interpreting her life through the rural landscape that adorns her lyrics. With fierce honesty and a voice that immediately commands attention, on her debut record, Riddy Arman has proven herself as much more than a cowboy.
On her new album Faster, Samantha Fish joins forces with superproducer Martin Kierszenbaum (Lady Gaga, Sting) and imbues even more intensity into her electrifying brand of blues/rock-and-roll. With Fish accompanied by legendary drummer Josh Freese (Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, The Replacements), bassist Diego Navaira of The Last Bandoleros, and Hannah Brier on backing vocals, the result is a singular body of work both irresistibly galvanizing and emotionally raw.

Space Summit is a collaboration between the omnipresent Marty Willson-Piper (ex-the church) and Minneapolitan Jed Bonniwell. Writing the music together, Marty handles the luminescent electric guitars and the bass whilst Jed is in charge of lead vocal duties, and lyrics. The music created on Space Summit's debut album is simultaneously modern and classic dream pop ' the subtle shading of dark and light with layered, sonic textures on every track.
Conceived in cyberspace, the album is produced by Marty and producer/engineer Dare Mason who also plays keyboards. Phoebe Tsen sings harmony vocals, Olivia Willson-Piper plays the strings, Eddie John plays the drums and Anekdoten's Nicklas Barker and Sophie Linder play Mellotron. All the usual suspects from Marty's recent Noctorum and MOAT projects make an appearance. Bringing together musicians from England, the USA, Sweden, and even Borneo where Phoebe lives, is recognition of a new future in music. This album is the first of Marty's intriguing Sessioneer Series, working with newly discovered collaborators from around the globe.
Over the course of her lush, expansive, defiantly sprawling new album, "Sometimes I Might Be Introvert", released on Age 101, the Ivor Novelloaward-winning, Mercury nominated Little Simzdelivers an undeniable modern classic, effortlessly condensing any number of disparate styles and genres into music which thrillingly broaches the gap between urgent modern treatise and hip hop. A bold, quantum leap forward from the critically beloved "Grey Area", this is hardly music aiming simply for the pop charts; rather, it is turbo charged with the kind of fury and potency, confusion and anxiety that make up the modern experience of being Black, British and female at this particular point in time. This is no mere philosophical exercise, however - the result is her most ambitious and soaring body of work to date, one which operates at the very heights of what rap can be
Ronnie Wood and the Ronnie Wood Band is back with the second installment of his live album trilogy, ‘Mr Luck - A Tribute to Jimmy Reed: Live at the Royal Albert Hall’, to be released 3 September 2021. The Ronnie Wood Band with special guests Mick Taylor, Bobby Womack, Mick Hucknall and Paul Weller. Live from the Royal Albert Hall on 1st November 2013. A ‘Tayle’ of Two Sidemen ‘When self-taught guitarist Eddie Taylor imparted his skills onto his friend Jimmy Reed, he surely couldn’t have imagined the effect this was to have on the Chicago blues scene. Backing up such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, he is best remembered for his work with his former student. Sweet coincidence, then, that in 1974 another Taylor, Mick, would make way for Ronnie Wood in the Rolling Stones, paving the way for these two friends and celebrated guitarists to work on projects ever since. The culmination of this to date is surely Taylor’s place in The Ronnie Wood Band at the Royal Albert Hall for 2013’s Bluesfest, where they played the now-legendary set that would come to give birth to this recording.’
Acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician Liz Cooper will release her anticipated new album, Hot Sass, September 3. Produced by Benny Yurco (Michael Nau, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals), mixed by Dan Molad (Lucius, Emily King) and recorded live at Little Jamaica Recordings in Burlington, VT, the new album marks multiple departures for Cooper—from her nine-year home of Nashville to Brooklyn, from her band addendum of the Stampede, and from the genre-based expectations she’s accumulated throughout her career. After heavy touring in support of 2018’s Window Flowers, where her songs stretched out in live settings, she felt constricted by the Americana-adjacent associations that "the Stampede" carried. So with her bandmates’ blessing, she dropped the moniker, pursuing sounds and songs that let her chase the inspiration lent to her by the likes of Courtney Love, Lou Reed, and David Bowie. With these twelve new songs, Cooper comes into her own—both musically and as a person—embracing a newfound sense of independence, honesty, maturity and creativity. In addition to Cooper and Yurco, Hot Sass also features Cooper’s longtime bandmates and collaborators Joe Bisirri (bass), Ryan Usher (drums, percussion) and Michael Libramento (guitar, synthesizer).
Reflecting on the album, Cooper shares, “It’s me learning about what kind of woman I am and it’s not pretty all the time…I’m still processing these songs. Still reflecting. And I think that’s the thing—Hot Sass is just a stamp in time of what was happening in my life. I just want to continue making art that displays myself, the moments, and the people around me.”
The new record follows Cooper’s 2018 full-length debut album, Window Flowers, which was released to widespread critical acclaim. Of the album, NPR Music praised, “a gorgeously arranged and performed bouquet of psychedelia-tinged folk-rock,” while Rolling Stone hailed, “Cooper pushes her strand of folk rock deep into psychedelic territory by merging her idiosyncratic vocal style with swirling, droning guitar effects and lacerating solos that feel dusted with otherworldly magic,” and Paste declared, “If we’re lucky, we are going to hear a lot more artists in the future like Liz Cooper.” Originally from Baltimore and now based in Brooklyn, Cooper has continued to tour consistently since her debut, performing alongside artists such as Dr. Dog, Shakey Graves, Bermuda Triangle, Lord Huron and Phosphorescent as well as special festival performances at Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival, BottleRock Music Festival, Lockn’ and more.
Cooper will also continue to tour throughout 2021 including upcoming performances at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Railbird Festival, Telluride Blues and Brews, Sea Hear Now Festival and Freakout Festival, with additional headline dates to be announced soon.

Tapping everything from anthemic drum & bass to woozy, iced-out house, soulful UKG and huge, festival-worthy club anthems, ‘Ground Control’ captures Rudimental in full bloom – at their free, expressive and kaleidoscopically creative best. Released over two sides to reflect the sheer breadth of sounds they explore – Side A compiling the album’s more soulful tracks, and Side B serving as a full-blooded nod to the clubs – the tracklist is awash with the sort of invention that makes Rudimental such a unique outfit; and with it, one of the UK’s most successful groups of the last decade.
Swedish musician and producer DJ Seinfeld (Armand Jakobsson) rose to prominence in 2016 through the so-called 'lo-fi house' scene, inadvertently helping define its sound. His debut album 'Time Spent Away From U' (2017) received support from Pitchfork, Resident Advisor and Crack Magazine with Rolling Stone describing the album as 'one of the best proper dance-music albums of the year' whilst FACT called it 'a victory lap'. Contemporaries like Aphex Twin (who played his track 'Sakura' in recent live shows), Flying Lotus, Four Tet, Flume, Bonobo, Hot Chip, Benji B, Marcel Dettmann, ODESZA, PatrickTopping are all known fans and supporters of his music. F.S.Blumm and Nils Frahm have confirmed details of their fourth collaborative album, 2X1=4, which will be released on September 3, 2021, by LEITER, the new label formed by Frahm and his manager, Felix Grimm. The seven-track album finds the duo unexpectedly exploring a dub-influenced universe, though in truth it’s one already familiar to both. F.S.Blumm, for instance, is co-founder of Quasi Dub Development, whose 2014 album, Little-Twister vs Stiff-Neck, featured Lady Ann and Lee Scratch Perry, while Frahm’s music – not least 2018’s All Melody – has occasionally betrayed a fondness for the form’s associated studio techniques, though he concedes wryly that his approach has always been “a little bit more German” than his influences.
“Fearless was an album full of magic and curiosity, the bliss and devastation of youth. It was the diary of the adventures and explorations of a teenage girl who was learning tiny lessons with every new crack in the facade of the fairytale ending she’d been shown in the movies. - Third Pressing of Jettison Mind Hatch.
- The 1st pressing (by now-defunct Rainbo Records) has a Blue-colored Side A ring, and the 2nd (pressed by Gold Rush) has a Red-colored Side A ring. This was unintended, and we’re calling this the ‘happy accident’ courtesy of Rainbo.
- Accordingly, as we have chosen RTI to be our permanent vinyl maker, we’ve intentionally changed their version (v3) to a thicker Gold colored Side A ring… this is how you will be able to tell these 3 versions apart.
- Only three thousand (3k) of v1 (Rainbo) were pressed, and only one thousand (1k) of v2 (Gold Rush) are in circulation. The RTI pressing (v3) will remain in circulation as the superior sounding and preferred version moving forward.

Originally released solely on digital and limited CD back in 2006, each of these tracks has been remixed and remastered sounding fresh some 15 years later.
LANY's 4th album, gg bb xx, changes gears for Paul Klein, Jake Goss & Les Priest. It focuses on what Klein describes as micro-moments: flashes we experience that come n' go in the blink of an eye. Nowhere is that spontaneity more evident than in the album's title (you pronounce it `gg' as in Hadid, `bb' as in Rexha, and `xx' as in, well, The xx.) "I wanted a title that had no pretense, no preconceived notion," Paul explains. "Whatever the song feels like to you, that's what the title means."

Recorded August 24, 2019, the performance of the legendary album in its entirety was kept secret until the moment the band took stage. One listen and it’s clear that their surprise performance that night - which included close TTB collaborator Doyle Bramhall II on guitar - meant something special to the astonished fans who were lucky to experience it.
Mute are excited to announce the release of José González’s fourth studio album Local Valley, out September 17th on limited edition indie exclusive green vinyl, black vinyl, CD and digital formats.
Local Valley is a natural continuation of the styles that José has developed over the years both solo and with his band Junip. The album strikes a balance between stripped back arrangements—just Jose’s intimate vocal and exquisite nylon string guitar work—and tracks driven by groovy drum machine loops and other percussive elements.
With songs sung in English, Spanish and Swedish, Local Valley invites us to look beyond our tribal instincts and join together in a more harmonic state. The album explores our shared humanity and the scientific-based existential questions we face together on our quest to understand ourselves and our place in the cosmos.

bLOW is Colin Linden’s fourteenth solo album, following the first, Colin Linden Live, by forty years. It is his first electric blues record.
bLOW will bring you to the dance floor, or up your highway speed by ten or fifteen mph, but it’s also worth listening to in a more contemplative way. Most classic blues songs were written by more than one person over more than a few decades, and that’s what gives them their gravity. Colin has steeped himself in this tradition, on advice he got, at age eleven, from Howling Wolf: if you want to play this music, listen to the people I listened to. On 78 records, you might think, but a lot of those old bluesmen were still around in the 1970s, so Colin got to know and learn from Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, Muddy Waters, Johnny Shines,Blind John Davis, Son House, and Robert, and Sam Chatmon, who invited him to Mississippi and got him started on his first journey through the South.
From Dreams To Dust, the latest studio album by The Felice Brothers was recorded in the fall of 2020 in an old one room church in Harlemville, NY. Produced by The Felice Brothers and mixed by Mike Mogis. The record ranges over a variety of topics and themes, including isolation, the world of dreams and delusions, environmental collapse, and the inward and outward chaos of modern life.
Eternal Blue - Spiritbox - After being named among Exclaim!'s New Faves last year, Spiritbox have detailed their debut album. The Victoria, BC-based metal outfit will share Eternal Blue from Rise Records.
The 12-track Eternal Blue includes previously shared singles "Holy Roller," "Constance" and "Circle with Me." "Yellowjacket" boasts a feature from Architects' Sam Carter, while the latest to arrive from the LP, "Secret Garden," can be heard alongside a music video below.
Vocalist Courtney LaPlante said of the song: "I think this is the most scared I've been to put out a song... I want to continue to showcase the fluidity that is inherent in heavy music, and even though this is just one part of a full body of work that may not sound exactly like this song, it is a song that we love and are obsessed with. I celebrate variation."
LaPlante added of Eternal Blue, "I must say that although we never intended to wait so long to do this record, I think it did help the songs become stronger... We have had enough time to release the exact music we would like to put out into the world, with no need to compromise. Every single note and every single syllable is the music that we have always dreamed of making and we are very proud of it."
On Halloween night, this pumpkin-shaped LP will rise from sincere vinyl collections the world over and bring audible presents to all the good girls and boys. Featuring the music of GRAMMY-winning composer/performer Vince Guaraldi, this limited run album includes insightful liner notes by Derrick Bang, Peanuts historian and author of Vince Guaraldi at the Piano. The album includes two of the most beloved tracks in the Guaraldi canon, “The Great Pumpkin Waltz” and “Linus and Lucy.”
The album cover you’re looking at might lead you to conclude Charley Crockett is on one hell of a roll. You wouldn’t be wrong. Ten records in six years is some kind of prolific. The latest, a double album, suggests the artist has some songs worth paying attention to. It’s clear that he’s invested as much time in the studio, recording storytelling songs, and making storytelling videos, as he has barnstorming around the United States and Europe playing live shows.
Not bad for a thirty-seven-year-old late bloomer.
Charley Crockett has been a fairly remarkable artist to follow. He’s got a sound. He’s got something to say. He has a look. And there’s a gauzy veil of mystery surrounding him suggesting he knows more than he’s letting on.
All those records in such a short amount of time have come with a “No Two Alike” guarantee, particularly the last three releases: the darkly prescient Welcome to Hard Times; the semi-autobiographical, hard-core country-roots The Valley; and 10 for Slim, his tribute of songs by the obscure and wholly authentic Texas honky-tonk maestro James Hand.
His voice is one-of-a-kind. His distinctive, plaintive vocals crack unapologetically with emotion, and he phrases his lines around the beat like a jazz singer, while he expounds upon personal relationships and the world beyond.
Now comes Charley’s tenth album in his six-year career. In the Crockett tradition, it is as ambitious and ground-breaking as each piece of recorded music he’s put out so far. And it’s not just an album. It’s a double album of Charley Crockett originals, each song going the distance to further define this singer-songwriter-performer-artist who came out of the proverbial nowhere.
Charley has endured the collapse of the recording industry, no money, petty crime, societal ennui, the Covid-19 pandemic, open heart surgery, one-night stands, long distance rides in a van, loud truck stops and diners serving stale lukewarm coffee to get to where he is now.
His reward – and yours – is this collection of Charley Crockett originals.
Sad, uplifting, hard, and sweet, complex and delicate all at once, his songs are like life its ownself, just like the songs’ creator: like nothing you’ve heard or seen before, a genuine Texas original. JOE NICK PATOSKI
For nearly two decades, Eric Krasno has been an omnipresent figure in popular music. We've heard his virtuosic, innovative guitar playing with Soulive and Lettuce (both of which he co-founded), seen him onstage supporting the likes of the Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer and The Roots, watched him take home multiple GRAMMY Awards, and benefited from his deft, behind-the-scenes work as a producer and songwriter for everyone from Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, and 50 Cent to Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone. In 2020, Eric already planned to venture into podcasting. The pandemic accelerated this process, resulting in the extremely well-received “Eric Krasno Plus One” podcast. Eric is the host of this interview-style series that brings listeners backstage and deep into the lives of incredible musicians, ranging from Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks and Branford Marsalis to Questlove, Ziggy Marley, John Mayer and Robert Randolph. Eric’s new solo album “Always”, his first on Provogue, an imprint of Mascot Label Group, sees him venture into an elaborate mix of blues, funk, rock and soul -- a sunny, funky and laid back album combining the vibe of 1970s Laurel Canyon, swaths of Hammond B3 organ, a rhythm section that appear to be joined at the hip, and of course that punchy Eric Krasno guitar sound. It evokes the spirit of Sly Stone, D’Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, and, dare we say his name, Prince? “Always” also alludes to the album cover, showing Eric’s wife, then pregnant with their now born son. This album is dedicated to them. "Always" will be released on CD on September 17, with the vinyl to follow on October 22, 2021.
Get yo ass in the house, robot-- you cyber-spectre, you outhouse prime minis- ter, you hard-headed mirror ninja, snapping selfies, living in the pixelated seams between bursts the of flashing images, birthed in a pool of TV static and Tik Tok dust. BLACK ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE AIR is here, not to save but to drown you. Heads better learn how to swim cause listen, this record is beat soup, hearty yet still minimal, a sonic mirage of prophetic soul that drop kicks your “chill beats to study to” Youtube playlist and hyper-intellectual rap podcasts into a hadron collider; it’s only black matter on the other side-- 13 mesmerizing tracks about memory and imprinting and the future, all of them wafting through untouched space like the ghostly cinders of a world on fire, unbound and uncharted, vast and stretching across the universe.
Moor Mother is a holographic figment of an Afrotopian dream, all at once god- dess and warrior, mystic and cyborg, griot and future time traveller, etching noisy pieces of reverie into our consciousness for decades now. But check it: on BLACK ENCYCLOPEDIA she’s joined by a wide-range of friends, collaborators and co-conspirators on a trip through the murky cosmos, navigating the black universe with stardust as currency. In these times, they’ll say, as they click and mash their way through the same inter-webs that seek to strangle them, BLACK ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE AIR is just what we need: a post-everything, 12:01 on the doomsday clock, anti-trip hop type of situation. “We ain’t gotta fight no more,” they’ll say; the rest of us, we’ll put this record on and imagine again that it’s real.
One on One is the brand new studio album by the legendary Paul Carrack.
The release is the culmination of Carrack's time spent working in his recording studio since the first lockdown began in March 2020, where he wrote, recorded and produced every song on ''One On One.''
One of the most revered voices in music and a figurehead of soulful pop for decades, PAUL CARRACK remains Britain's best blue-eyed soul singer, writer and purveyor of songs that are deep in the DNA of pop history. Dubbed ''The Man with the Golden Voice'' in a BBC documentary about his phenomenal 50-year career, Paul, whose vocals have graced million-selling songs such as ''How Long'' by ACE, ''Tempted'' by Squeeze and the GRAMMY Award nominated ''Living Years'' by Mike + the Mechanics, is now firmly established as one of the hardest working, independent musicians on the scene. He's also a hugely popular touring artist, talented multi-instrumentalist and record label owner.
The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy's highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series shines fresh light on the provocative new musical directions Dylan was taking as a songwriter and a recording artist from 1980 through 1985. In the early 1980s, while the music industry was grappling with the arrival of new trends and technology, from MTV to compact discs to digital recording, Bob Dylan was writing and recording new songs for a new decade, creating an essential new chapters in his studio catalog. Bob Dylan - Springtime In New York (1980-1985) celebrates the rich creative period surrounding Dylan's classic albums Shot Of Love, Infidels, and Empire Burlesque with previously unreleased outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings, live performances and more.
In his liner notes for Bob Dylan - Springtime In New York, Damien Love writes, "And that's the real story of this gloriously untrammeled collection. The songs. The songs stripped free of trappings, tampering, passing tastes, and judgements. The songs broken down to the sound of people really doing this, right now, acting on instinct. The songs rough and rowdy, bruised and tender, joking and crying, nagging and striving and yearning. The songs were always there, and here they are still, keeping pace with us."
Sinner is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Drowning Pool. Originally released on June 5, 2001 by Wind-Up Records, it is considered to be the band's most popular album - earning RIAA Platinum certification within the first six weeks of its release. This was due at least in part to their hit single "Bodies," which remains the band's most well-known song. Available on vinyl for the first time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its release.
Walkman showcases Bad Bad Hats'. Kerry (guitar/vocals), Chris (bass), and Con (drums) let their collective hair down on Walkman, bringing raucous and explosive riffs alongside witty lyrics. Though you might not notice from their indie rock exterior, Bad Bad Hats draws a heavy influence from classic pop songwriting that shines through in their hooky choruses and strong melodic sensibilities. Walkman is the group's fourth time working with producer Brett Bullion, including their previous two LPs, Psychic Reader and lightning Round, and the Wide Right EP. Bullion and the band use the studio as an instrument, resulting in their most polished work to date.
Small Wonders is guitarist Zacc Harris's most expansive and involving set of compositions yet, the music's palette expanded by the presence of Downbeat "Rising Star" trumpeter John Raymond and saxophonist Brandon Wozniak along with the dynamic rhythm section and telepathic interplay of Bryan Nichols, Chris Bates and JT Bates. Harris has long operated at a high level on many fronts-improviser, sound sculptor, bandleader-but his compositional intelligence runs deeper than ever on Small Wonders.
UMAN’s Chaleur Humaine, the debut album from the French duo of musicians and siblings Danielle and Didier Jean, resurfaces for the first time since its original release in 1992. While history, both private and public, is scattered with creative relationships between siblings that simply “did not work,” UMAN’s story is uniquely different and defined by this bond, and a shared journey impressing footprints along an adventurous musical terrain. Prior to Chaleur Humaine, Danielle and Didier recorded two albums of pop songs met mostly with ambivalence, inspiring them to escape the expectations of the French music industry and build their own studio in Orsay, a suburb south of Paris. Chaleur Humaine was a modus operandi for their new, liberated perspective and space: freedom to develop ideas independently; to cross-pollinate genres and abandon them altogether; to improvise and experiment in new musical configurations. Within their recording sanctuary, Danielle and Didier embraced cutting edge consumer music technology to inform the album’s esoteric, textural characteristics. This is especially notable in the processing of Danielle’s voice, inventively sampled, shifted and processed, and then woven through Didier’s dream worlds. This interpretation of technology and economy of sound, gives Chaleur Humaine a soft and impressionistic sense of surrealism, guided by a human sincerity and sublimated into a landscape that feels pastoral yet universal. UMAN, the name which binds Danielle and Didier musically, resembles “human” in many Romance languages but signals a spirit from a deeper earth force. Similarly, UMAN reinvents language in a postmodern way to create a harmony and truth that exists within and beyond human recognition. A poem, at once a theme and mantra, recurs throughout Chaleur Humaine: “It’s this force, almost animal, warm, like a kiss, fresh like the morning dew, that we call human warmth.” Dispatched across multiple languages over abstract melodic motifs, the message radiates from a place of meditated intent. Chaleur Humaine was released on Buda Musique during the French record label’s rise to prominence showcasing global sound, with several tracks plucked from the album and reaching an international audience through various New Age / “Chillout” compilations. Yet the album shares more in common with Piero Milesi and Daniel Bacalov’s work for stage and theater on La Camera Astratta, the introspective world building of Nuno Canavarro on Plux Quba, and the formless vocalism and ethereality of Cocteau Twins or Enya. While Danielle and Didier admit an affinity for some of these artists, UMAN were driven by their own invention, performing with local and fringe artists, and ultimately at ease in their secluded musical world. Even as the music of UMAN ricochets off the walls of their safe haven in so many directions, the artists’ interplay of reference and abstraction of sound retains the intimacy of a wildly imaginative conversation between siblings. UMAN’s Chaleur Humaine will be made available again on Freedom To Spend on September 17, 2021, for the first time on vinyl and as CD and digital editions. On behalf of UMAN, a portion of the proceeds from this release will benefit Greenpeace France.
Transcontinental, experimental duo Smoke Bellow have been at it since 2012, relocating from Australia to Baltimore, MD & back again and then BACK AGAIN(now firmly settled in Baltimore). The duo released the “Blooming/Middling” LP in2014, followed by “Isolation 3000” in 2018 (both on Baltimore label Ehse Records) After a line-up shuffle, they eventually recruited one of their favorite drummers and dear friend, Emmanuel Nicolaidis (Thank You, Oh Hang). which found the duo refining of their sound into a dizzyingly attractive mixture of kosmiche serenity, minimalist composition, test-card psychedelia, and highlife guitar. With “Open for Business” the three members set out to create a set of songs more immediate and bare than previous outings. The album title itself is a cheeky reference to Maryland governor Larry Hogan’s less than inspired motto “we’re open for business”. Half of the songs were written in a room together and the second half via email (for obvious reasons). At the time they were listening to a lot of post punk and were struck with the partnership of drums and bass as propulsive instruments. The trio started writing songs around that idea - with the rhythm as a brace to hang their decorations. Sonically, Smoke Bellow are inspired by disparate sources. The heyday ofCompass Point studios’ famed rhythm section of Sly and Robbie sustained them for months. Others included good old VU, ESG, guitar hero Zani Diabate, TheRaincoats (especially their under-appreciated second album, Odyshape), the frenetic sound collisions of the Flying Lizards, the ever warm blanket of Yo La Tengo, the evolving repetition of Stereolab, the understated genius of AsaOsborne, as well as Philip Glass and Steve Reich. The David Byrne/ Robert Wilson"Knee plays" reminded them of the joy of the spoken word set to music. Lyrically,Best & McHugh drew from life in Baltimore, from isolation (again), memories of life in Melbourne, their friends and each other. “We wanted to talk about resilience and resistance.” Says Best. Recording and mixing took place between a remote cabin in the Smoky Mountains and Tempo House in Baltimore with Jared Paolini.“Maybe Something” includes cello from Owen Gardner (Horse Lords). Words on"Night Light" by Daniel Stephensen. The duo are set to release their latest album and first for Trouble In Mind Records,“Open For Business” on September 17th, 2021.
As if refracting feeling from a mirror image, Hurtwave bounces bright sonic transmissions off dark emotions. The Orange County duo - Rory Rodriguez and Mike Karle, also of Dayseeker - integrate alternative energy and pop ambition into synthwave-spiked soundscapes perfect for a midnight drive. Night Therapy, Vol. 1, is their debut album on Spinefarm Records. Produced by Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker, Silent Planet.) Clear Pink LP.

Pilgrimage of the Soul is the 11th studio album in the 22-year career of Japanese experimental rock legends, MONO. Recorded and mixed – cautiously, anxiously, yet optimistically – during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the summer of 2020, Pilgrimage of the Soul is aptly named as it not only represents the peaks and valleys where MONO are now as they enter their third decade, but also charts their long, steady journey to this time and place. Continuing the subtle but profound creative progression in the MONO canon that began with Nowhere Now Here (2019), Pilgrimage of the Soul is the most dynamic MONO album to date (and that’s saying a lot). But where MONO’s foundation was built on the well-established interplay of whisper quiet and devastatingly loud, Pilgrimage of the Soul crafts its magic with mesmerizing new electronic instrumentation and textures, and – perhaps most notably – faster tempos that are clearly influenced by disco and techno. It all galvanizes as the most unexpected MONO album to date – replete with surprises and as awash in splendor as anything this band has ever done.
In 2005, Straylight Run (which features John Nolan and Shaun Cooper of Taking Back Sunday) recorded Live at The Patchogue theater but it was never released and the band would go on indefinite hiatus. Now, 15 years later, this album is available for the first time. These are the band's only live recordings and the set features all of the fan favorites including "Existentialism on Prom Night," "The Tension and The Terror" and "Hands In The Sky."

'Exile' is a beautifully curated selection of 11 tracks featuring 2 new original songs, plus fan favorites from both the ‘Conspiracy’ album and hand-picked live tracks from their epic setlists.
The Raven Age are as brilliantly catchy as they are deviously heavy, delicately balancing classic and modern metal influences with an alt.rock twist. Their latest opus traps lightning in a bottle and laces cinematic flavours within concrete heaviness in a way very few have done before – dragging the listener deeper and deeper inside their dark dystopian reality.
The proof, as they say, is always in the pudding. With the success of their latest album 'Conspiracy' reaching over 30 million streams worldwide as well as storming UK arenas opening for Alter Bridge & Shinedown. The Raven Age have risen to every challenge thrown their way and look primed for metal glory.
There’s a fundamental truth that Los Angeles musician and song-writer Lexi Vega embraces on Mini Trees’ debut album Always In Motion - time keeps moving forward, for better or worse. The consequences of this perpetual motion spark this latest collection of relatable indie-pop songs that acknowledge our collective anxiety about life’s improbability.
Lexi began writing and recording her own music as Mini Trees in 2018. It was a natural evolution for Lexi, who grew up in Southern California surrounded by music - her mom sang in a Japanese pop fusion band and her dad was a touring and session drummer who was often on the road with James Taylor. She grew up taking guitar and drum lessons, always aware that music would be her path. After years of playing drums in other bands, she recorded her first solo track with producer Jon Joseph and was immediately hooked on the feeling of creating something that spoke directly to her as an artist. Mini Trees debut EP, Steady Me, dropped in 2019 and Lexi followed it with last year’s Slip Away EP.
Mini Trees began playing around the West Coast in early 2020, and then the motion paused for Lexi and the rest of the world. Suddenly she was home, with endless time to think, and the pause made her begin to reevaluate her own identity and beliefs. She had initially planned to write and record a third EP in 2020, but Lexi quickly realized she had the time and inspiration for an album instead. Last summer she went into the studio with Jon for several recording sessions to create what would become her first full-length record.
As a whole, Always In Motion is a snapshot of Lexi’s frame of mind while creating it. It’s about the past as much as it was about the present moment, and Lexi’s ability to look inward and ask questions extends outward to the listener as well. Mini Trees posits that there is no easy answer to these queries, but maybe that’s okay. Time moves forward - always in motion.
